MADISON, Wis. – Acting CUNA Mutual CEO Jeff Holley has named Lon Sprecher as Acting CFO. Before being named acting CEO, Holley was CUNA Mutual's CFO. Sprecher has been with CUNA Mutual since 1995. He served as its Chief Officer of the Credit Union Protection Solutions Group prior to this. Sprecher has played a key role in the company's expansion into China, and CUNA Mutual said he will continue to oversee its International Division as well as the Project Services and Support areas. In other news, CUNA Mutual and its union held two face-to-face negotiation meetings as of press time. One sticking point is clearly going to be the 40-hour work week CUNA Mutual is pushing for. The company maintains that many of its employees are paid above market for similar positions in the area where employees are working 40 hours, and the union workers now currently only put in 37 hours a week. The union said it made some concessions by making the 40-hour work week voluntary for its workers, as long as they're paid for the extra three hours. It also said it would allow new position postings for jobs that are currently 37 hour weeks, to be 40. A "media blackout" was proposed by the company, but rejected by the union. The union proposed to bring a mediator into negotiations, but the company rejected that, saying it achieved its last collective bargaining unit without the help of a mediator.
