COLUMBUS, Ohio – Congresswoman Deborah Pryce's visit to Corporate One's headquarters on August 19 wasn't just a meet and greet, it became a hands-on visit. Pryce (R-Ohio) arrived around 8:30 in the morning and was briefed by Corporate One executives on corporates, credit union taxation, capital issues, and other critical areas. "Representative Pryce has demonstrated her support for credit unions for many years and we are proud to host her," said Lee Butke, Corporate One's CEO. After the briefing, Pryce was shown some of the latest developments at Corporate One at work. She visited the corporate's main technology hub for a demo of how the corporate helps credit unions stay in compliance with the Office of Foreign Asset Control regs as well as how it is adjusting to prepare for Check 21. Pryce wrote out a check, fed it into an image-capture device and watched her check appear on a monitor. She said it was nice to see the Check 21 law Congress worked hard to pass in action. Mike Canning, executive director of the Association of Corporate Credit Unions (ACCU); and Paul Mercer, president/CEO of the Ohio Credit Union System, also met with Pryce. Canning said he was impressed with Pryce's knowledge of corporates. Corporate leaders have admitted that some members of Congress are still a little fuzzy on what a corporate is and what it does. "It was evident that Congresswoman Pryce cared enough about us to thoroughly prepare for her visit. She had a fine level of knowledge about our issues and generally seemed to be supportive of credit unions," said Canning, noting she even seemed to have a grip on the ACCU's goal to change the way capital is held in the corporate network, so that it is brought in line with international standards.
