NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -Langley Federal Credit Union has donated $1,500 to Langley Air Force Base Family Support Services, and their donation has been matched by Armed Forces Financial Network. A portion of the $3,000 total contribution has been designated for the purchase of pre-paid phone cards, which will be distributed to military personnel in an effort to close the communication gap between families and their deployed loved ones. "Credit unions were formed on the premise of `people helping people'. That's a philosophy we incorporate into everything we do," said LFCU President/CEO Jean M. Yokum. "It's an honor to support those who protect and serve our country. Their sacrifice is something that none of us should take for granted." In support of LFCU's commitment to improve financial literacy levels in its community, the remainder of the funds will be used to purchase financial education textbooks, which will be provided to base personnel who wish to learn more about managing their personal finances. "AFFN is proud to support Langley Federal Credit Union and match the donations to LAFB Family Support Services. We are united with our participants to serve those who so proudly and bravely serve our great nation," said AFFN President/CEO David Weber. AFFN is an electronic funds transfer network serving over 332 defense credit unions and military banks, at over 100,000 ATMs and over 1 million merchant/retail locations globally.
