TALLHASSEE, Fla. – As the home state corporate for Florida, Southeast Corporate FCU has been working overtime to help credit unions affected by Hurricane Charley. The corporate can play a number of roles, said SECORP President/CEO Bill Birdwell. On the item processing side, the corporate is going through the Fed and other financials trying to get delayed credit without the penalties. The corporate is also backdating any transactions to reverse loan interest. “If they didn’t have the opportunity to make transfers, we’re backdating the purchases and maturities of certificates to compensate for activities they couldn’t make because of the hurricane,” said Birdwell. Southeast is also raising money to assist victims. It is having a staff dress down for dollars campaign, where staff will donate money for a dress down day, and SECORP will match the dollars. Birdwell said it will be for employees or members of credit unions that have been hit particularly hard. At press time, Birdwell said he wasn’t sure exactly all that SECORP would be called on to do because issues we’re still arising. “We’re just looking to help out in any way we can,” he said.
