WASHINGTON-House Financial Services Committee Chairman Mike Oxley (R-Ohio) and NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson are teaming up for two credit union forums in Ohio to address key common issues of interest. On Sept. 10 at 8:00 a.m., the two chairmen will address attendees at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, Ohio, then trek over to the Holiday Inn in Lima for a repeat performance at 12:45 p.m. Representatives from NCUA’s Office of General Counsel, the U.S. Treasury Department, and law enforcement will address the audiences on topics, including financial education, Health Savings Accounts, and consumer protections in identity theft. Everyone is sure to benefit from the meetings. “For credit unions, it’s informational,” Johnson explained. She added, “It’s an opportunity for dialogue and I think that’s always good.” Communication results in better regulation and legislation, Johnson said. The NCUA chairman said the forum developed from a meeting she set up with Chairman Oxley, where she shared her philosophies and what she wanted to do as chair. “So, it evolved from that meeting and we said we’d look for a date where both our schedules coordinated,” she said. Johnson said she is “thrilled” at the opportunity to hold the forum with Oxley.
