MADISON, Wis. – While it is still too early to have any figures in terms of claim amounts in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley, CUNA Mutual Media Relations Manager Phil Tschudy says that so far most damage reports include wind damage to building interiors, water damage and power outages. One credit union that appears to have sustained the most severe damage is Lee County Postal CU in Fort Meyers as a result of roof damage to its sponsor’s building. Tschudy says at this point no other losses have been reported outside of Florida. “We did attempt to contact credit unions since Friday as we were aware of this and anticipated there would be some damage following the storm,” said Tschudy. “It is a serious situation and we’re ready to do all we can to help credit unions there.” With field staff and an independent catastrophe claims team already based onsite, CUNA Mutual did not have to send any additional staff to Southwestern Florida. CUNA Mutual also activated its Disaster Response Team, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be reached toll free at (800) 637-2676.
