WASHINGTON – For the first time, more than half of all credit unions have a presence on the World Wide Web. The latest data from Callahan & Associates shows that 5,304 of 9,488 credit unions in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands – 56% – now have Web pages. More than 60% of those CUs offer at least basic home banking, up from about 50% two years ago, according to the data compiled for Callahan’s 2004 Credit Union Technology Survey. In 1995, there were 12 credit unions with Web pages. In 1996, that ballooned to 266 and passed the 1,000 mark in 1997. Early in 2000, the 3,000 mark was passed, according to Callahan’s survey figures.
