Orange County’s Credit Union, Santa Ana, Calif., has awarded $5,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors at Santa Ana’s Century High School. This year’s recipients include Geronima Garcia, Julie Houth, Stephanie Murrietta, Alejandra Magana and Isaias Castro. BECU, Seattle, Wash., through its BECU Foundation has awarded a record 48 $2,000 scholarships to students. Scholarship recipients were selected based on community and school service, leadership and academic achievement. Since the BECU Foundation was formed in 1995, it has annually awarded at least 25 $2,000 scholarships, and to date has awarded more than $700,000 to high school and college students. Unity One Federal Credit Union, Fort Worth, Texas, has awarded the 2004 Robert P. Bennett Memorial Scholarship to Robert Copouls. Copouls attends Valparaiso University in Indiana and is majoring in civil engineering. The $1,000 scholarship will be used toward his tuition for the fall 2004. Pawtucket Credit Union, R.I., has announced the recipients of the Ninth Annual Pawtucket Credit Union Scholarship Program. Recipients were honored at a scholarship luncheon. This year’s winners include Sheri Mancinho, Vanessa Wayne, Maria Lemus, Mari Poliquin, Shane Farrell, Nicole Dandur, Justin Castelli, Kennethy Iavorone, Antonio Ballestas and Gayane Badalyan. Maryland Credit Union League Foundation, Columbia, Md., has presented MECU of Baltimore member Alicia Hodges a $1,000 scholarship for her essay on the theme of Financial Literacy. Hodges’ essay, which stressed the need for financial literacy to be part of the regular school curriculum, was one of two grand prizewinners from hundreds of entries submitted to the foundation from credit unions around the State of Maryland. Freedom Credit Union, Philadelphia, has selected four outstanding students are recipients of the 2004 Freedom Credit Union Scholarship. Recipients will each be awarded $1,000 to use in furthering their education. This year’s scholarship winners are Kristin Bologa, Nathan Carr-Whealy, Laura Ferry and Raheem Palmer. Silver State Schools Credit Union, Las Vegas, has recently awarded four New Teacher Certification and 15 Masters of Education scholarships to members who applied for its annual teacher scholarship award program. The New Teacher Certification scholarship is designed to assist in the recruitment of new teachers. The Masters of Education Studies scholarship enables a currently licensed teacher to enhance their professional development by pursuing a Masters Degree. Each scholarship awards $1,000 annually, renewable for a second year, and is awarded to the most deserving applicants, as determined by a selection committee.
