RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – California Credit Union League nine-year veteran Chris Kerecman, federal governmental affairs vice president, will start work Sept. 8 at California Credit Union as senior vice president of business and community development, a new position at CCU. Kerecman said the move will allow him to spend more time with his family “while at the same time challenging me in new areas. “California Credit Union is run by president/CEO Ron McDaniel, a great person, and the credit union is located near my home and my son’s school. Adopting a son four years ago has really changed my priorities,” said Kerecman. Kerecman began his career with the California Credit Union League in 1995 as director of regulatory affairs. He was promoted to vice president in 1998. During his nine years with the League, Kerecman was responsible for planning, developing, and implementing CCUL’s regulatory advocacy program and was instrumental in securing passage of H.R. 1151. He’s also more recently been involved with garnering congressional co-sponsors’ names for H.R. 3579, the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act. Prior to working with the CCUL, Kerecman was at NCUA as a White House Schedule C employee both for former Pres. George Bush and Pres. Bill Clinton. When he began working at the agency in 1990, it was to serve as NCUA Board member Bob Swan’s chief policy advisor. The last year Kerecman was with NCUA he opened and ran its Office of Community Development as its director. In 2002, Kerecman received special recognition from CUNA and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) for his work during the pilot stage of Project Zip Code. Commenting on Kerecman’s imminent departure from CCUL, President/CEO Dave Chatfield recognized the “invaluable foundation” Kerecman constructed for the League’s advocacy programs over the past nine years, which Chatfield said resulted in many federal legislative successes. “We are sad to lose Chris, but will continue to benefit from his hard work as the League builds upon that foundation towards current and future legislative victories.” -
