WILMINGTON, N.C. – John Paup, president/CEO of Cape Fear CU, was elected chairman of the gubernatorial appointed-North Carolina Credit Union Commission for 2004-2005. The commission has seven members, and Paup was appointed by Gov. Mike Easley in 2003. The NCCUC, a division of the State Department of Commerce, provides regulatory oversight to state chartered CUs. It consists of four credit union members who are not employed in the financial services industry, and three CU directors or managers. The commission has the authority and power to review, approve or modify any action taken by the administrator of credit unions under the state's credit union laws. Commissioners serve a four-year term. Paup is also a member of the Credit Union Executive Society (CUES) and the Governmental Affairs Committee of the North Carolina Credit Union League.
