ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson announced that the agency would be holding the second in a series of Access Across America Economic Empowerment Summits in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Sept. 13. “The summit will bring together the public and private sectors to discuss the important issues of economic empowerment. The summit will provide an overview of resources available to credit unions, which may assist them in their outreach efforts to promote financial education, homeownership, and member business lending,” Johnson said. The free, one-day seminar is designed with CEOs and volunteers in mind. It will focus on federal resources available to credit unions with key panels on financial education, homeownership, member business lending and partnership opportunities for credit unions. Panelists will include representatives from government agencies and non-profit organizations. In addition, there will be a session on grant writing techniques and serving underserved areas. “Many credit unions do not have the resources available to apply for the numerous grants available through NCUA and other government entities. We hope to provide credit union leaders with the tools needed to prepare successful grant applications. We want to encourage credit unions to look at all grants available,” Johnson commented. She invited credit unions from New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas to participate. NCUA held a similar conference in Milwaukee last month. Access Across America works to promote and facilitate access to affordable financial services for individuals and communities nationwide.
