MADISON, Wis. – CUNA Mutual President and CEO Mike Kitchen and Office of Professional Employees International Union President Michael Goodwin held their second face-to-face meeting in less than a month in New York on July 19. The two were meeting about the labor dispute at CUNA Mutual where the company and the union have failed to ratify a new collective bargaining agreement – the old one expired March 31. Kitchen and Goodwin met for the first time on July 8 in Florida. At that meeting the two agreed to a 30-day cooling off period whereby the union would suspend its corporate campaign against CUNA Mutual. Nothing as concrete came out of this latest meeting in New York. According to a CUNA Mutual spokesperson, the meeting lasted several hours and covered issues surrounding the labor dispute. Approximately 1,400 CUNA Mutual employees in Madison are unionized under OPEIU Local 39.
