CLEVELAND- Despite a sluggish economy, the Greater Cleveland Fire Fighters Credit Union (GCFFCU) has celebrated the grand opening of its fourth branch complete with bag pipers. Some 200 members attended the grand opening celebration and after a ribbon cutting ceremony which include the melodious sounds of a bag pipe, members were treated to a tour of the building, enjoyed hors d’oeuvres with the staff and got an upclose look at two Cleveland fire trucks. The full service branch features an Internet center, kids corner, drive-thru windows and ATM machines. GCFFCU opened its doors in 1936 and was traditionally known for its membership of fire fighters and safety forces. Recently GCFFCU has grown to include a number of select employee groups and a community charter available for seven cities in the southern suburbs. “Our new branch makes all of our services more easily accessible and convenient for members on Cleveland’s west side,” says GCFFCU President/CEO Karen A. McNamara. Over the years, membership has grown to nearly 20,000, and McNamara believes this new branch and recent community charter will keep membership numbers growing strong.
