YORK, Pa. – In an area steeped in American history, First Capital Federal Credit Union’s branch here makes the most of an Americana theme in a retail environment. Designed by Cincinnati, Ohio-based design/build firm DEI, Incorporated, the two story, 16,300 square-foot branch incorporates retail elements, such as a community kiosk, which provides bulletin boards for members to display local information as well as computer monitors where local businesses can advertise. A Tech Cafe is also available for members to research financial information. Situated at an angle to face a major intersection, ribbon windows across the front and sides of the building bring in natural light. The windows and the monumental canopy are also illuminated at night to draw attention to the building. The interior is designed so that the member can see all products and services available upon entering the credit union. A light color palette was chosen for the interior to create a neutral canvas so the red, white and blue accents pop and enhance the Americana theme. A unique ceiling treatment of a star cutout that is lit in royal blue is located over the waiting area, which further strengthens the interior/retail concept. The many black and white, floor-to-ceiling “super” graphics throughout the interior depict celebratory images, such as the classic steam engine, patriotic American flag and July 4th celebrations. Vinyl treatments resembling a flag were applied to glass partitions to not only divide workspaces but also provide privacy.
