Pacific Service Credit Union, Walnut Creek, Calif., donations have helped enable Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation to provide a summer education and leadership program for disadvantaged youth ages 6 to16. The SAFE Summer/Swim Safe program is offered free of charge to children from low-income neighborhoods in Santa Rosa in collaboration with the Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County. Thanks to Pacific Service CU over 150 kids will learn about Sonoma County’s plants, animals and ecosystems while enjoying a variety of activities including nature hikes, game days, craft projects, swimming, fishing and camping. Toledo Area Community Credit Union, Sylvania, Ohio, has partnered with the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library this summer to help promote their summer reading program. TACCU’s donation to the program will allow 800 children to attend a Mud Hen’s game this summer through drawings that the Library will hold in conjunction with their summer reading program. Open to preschool-8th grade students the Summer Reading Program lets the students receive prizes at certain levels of hours read during the summer. It promotes the benefits of reading while also giving the students a little extra fun this summer. Merck, Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union, North Wales, Pa., has helped the Lansdale Police Department with its KidCare ID program during Lansdale Day. As an incentive, each child who received an ID was entered into a drawing to win a bike. Three winners were selected. Over 300 children received an ID. First Florida Credit Union, Jacksonville, Fla., has hosted an employee clothing drive to help the Community Rehabilitation Center (CRC) with its ever-growing needs. Credit union employees have donated gently used adult clothes, shoes, purses and hats. The CRC is a non-profit agency that provides a comprehensive program of services directed toward independent living in the community. In addition, CRC responds to community’s need for rehabilitation, intervention, basic education, and vocational and employment services. Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robbins, Ga., employees are showing their support for Iraqi children by helping the 115th Brigade, an Army Reserve Unit from North West Alabama in the “Toys for Iraqi Kids Project.” Robins Federal employees are collecting toys and other items to make packages for the 115th Unit to give out to Iraqi children while on patrol and at their compound in Mousel, Iraq. The packages contain such items as toothbrushes, activities/games, candy, t-shirts, colored pencils and stickers. A new shipment is sent every other week. CTCE Federal Credit Union, Reading, Pa., Chief Financial Officer Jerry Winchester was taken in handcuffs by limousine for a good cause as part of the Berks County Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association annual fundraiser. CTCE FCU staffers helped Winchester in raising over $2,100 by selling “Get out of jail” tickets to members. CTCE FCU has participated in the MDA fundraiser for seven years raising over $8,000 during that time.
