WASHINGTON – Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (D-N.Y.) added his name last week to the growing list of co-sponsors for the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 3579). CURIA currently now has 63 lawmakers supporting the bill. A hearing was held on credit union regulatory improvements-not technically the legislation itself-prior to the August recess. CURIA expands credit unions' business lending authorities and establishes a risk-based capital system for credit unions, which has the banking trade associations up in arms. It also provides numerous other regulatory relief measures.
