GREENSBORO, N.C. – A low voter turnout in the North Carolina primary didn’t stop credit union supported and credit union friendly candidates from doing well. In the Democratic race for the 1st District U.S. House of Representatives, G.K. Butterfield who was endorsed by the North Carolina Credit Union League, won a big victory, taking 71% of the vote in the heavily Democratic district in the northeastern part of the state. In the 10th House District, League endorsed Republican David Huffman – who opposes the taxation of credit unions – took 35% of the vote in the primary, pushing him to a runoff against State Rep. Patrick McHenry who garnered 26% of the votes. On Aug. 17, two credit union friendly candidates will face one another in a runoff election – in the 5th House District, Councilman Vernon Robinson will face State Sen. Virginia Foxx.
