ALBANY, N.Y. – After 20 years at Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Dennis Halpin resigned as president/CEO on July 31. Halpin came to the credit union in 1984 as manager of accounting and was promoted to executive vice president in 1989. For the past 10 years, he has served at the CU’s helm and as its board’s treasurer. Halpin, who said he will take a CFO position at a credit union in the Midwest around Labor Day, did not want to disclose the credit union’s name pending an official announcement from their end. The CCFCU board has appointed Paula Stopera, currently executive vice president at Capital Communications, to serve as president/CEO effective Aug. 1. Stopera has been with the credit union for more than 24 years and is the chairperson of CAP COM Financial Services LLC and the Capital Communications Cares Foundation. “I know that the credit union will be in capable hands with Paula,” Halpin said. “She’s been my partner for the last 10 years and I’m confident that she will be successful in helping this credit union achieve all of its future business goals.” Capital Communications serves more than 42,000 members and has $372 million in assets.
