CLEVELAND, Ohio – The July 13 issue of USA Today featured the activity of the privately insured Faith Community United Credit Union as a supporter of the Consumer Federation of America's Cleveland Saves campaign. The credit union is a community development credit union and a leader in the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions. The Cleveland Saves program is a pilot project of CFA's that seeks to study the effects of promoting savings among lower income families in the Cleveland area. “This program succeeded in making people aware of the necessity to save and build assets, and, especially in defining what an asset is,” said Rita Haynes, CEO of the credit union and chairwoman of the Federation's Board. “Many people now realize that assets are not just money, but real estate, IRA's and other things,” she added.
