Fort Bliss Federal Credit Union, El Paso, Texas, has named Alexander Galaviz the 2004 Leo Ziegler Employee of the Year. Galaviz is part of the information systems department and manages the credit union’s employee helpdesk and was selected for his great positive attitude. The Employee of the Year Award is named for long-time credit union volunteer Leo Ziegler, who passed away in 1992. Ziegler served on the Fort Bliss FCU board of directors and supervisory committee for over 15 years. GenFed Federal Credit Union, Akron, Ohio, Branch Operations/Member Service Officer Richard Todd has received his Credit Union Compliance Expert Certification from CUNA’s Center for Professional Development. The Compliance Expert Certificate is designed for compliance professionals wanting to explore the details of credit union regulations. Ste. Croix Regional Federal Credit Union, Lewiston, Maine, has received a second place award in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program for credit unions. This is the second consecutive year the Credit Union has received this award for involvement in community projects and activities. In addition the credit union received second place in the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award for credit unions. Ste. Croix received the award for making community service and philosophy in action part of the credit union difference through their Monty Moose Youth Savers Program, which encourages children to save and teaches them about their financial future. Members Credit Union, Greensboro, N.C., President/CEO Jack V. Braswell, Jr. has received the 2004 Mark of Excellence Award from the North Carolina Credit Union Network. The award recognizes Braswell’s 25 years of service to North Carolina credit unions as well as marks his achievement as having previously been a recipient of the Credit Union Person of the Year award. This is one of the highest honors one can receive in the credit union community. Marion and Polk Schools Credit Union, Monmouth, Ore., Matthew Garlick has been awarded Stellar Teller status for being the highest performer among all tellers. Garlick has had a 100% accuracy since being hired in April 2004. EECU, Fort Worth, Texas, has awarded lucky members Roland and Estella Hernandez a $500 gift card during its grand opening treasure hunt. Members were handed a treasure map listing 25 brand name slogans and were given 15-minutes to race down the aisles, identify those slogans, and put the items in their shopping cart. For every item they identified correctly they received a $20 Albertson’s gift card. Financial 21 Community Credit Union, San Diego, has named Lisa Almario as Employee of the Quarter. Almario has a strong background in financial services and has excelled as a loan officer at Financial 21′s East County branch. She was also recognized for her consistent service performance with the Barbara Hintz Service award in January.
