I just finished reading the June 23rd Credit Union Times article on the labor dispute between CUNA Mutual and its union, and want to pass along some comments on my reaction to the OPEIU dispute. I agree that "it's about time" that CUNA Mutual offer some resistance to union demands. And I was astounded to read about the local's absurd demand for answers to 114 questions. Regarding "the impact of the change in hours on Beltline traffic", OPEIU Local 39 Business Manager John Peterson must be "smoking funny cigarettes." Regarding the local's demand for detailed information on "all claims under health, dental, and vision plans", have these rocket scientists not heard about the extensive legal requirements of the Privacy Act that preclude dissemination of medical information? The ludicrous nature of just these two questions supports the conclusion that unionization fosters unnecessary inefficiencies that degrade productivity and inflate costs (now, there's a winning combination).
