RALEIGH, N.C. – A woman was killed in the parking lot of a branch of the $12 billion State Employees Credit Union sometime on the night of July 2, according to local news reports. News Channel 14, a television news outlet in Raleigh, has reported that Shaudria Barfield, 24, was found shot to death by a jogger who noticed her slumped over the wheel of her car with the motor running and the lights on. Police have charged Larry Carter, 26, of Raleigh with the murder. Investigators say the two had a personal relationship. Police have said Barfield last was seen alive at 11:30 p.m. Friday. That is when a neighbor said he saw her leave her apartment and get in her black 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. The manager of the credit union told another television station that surveillance video show Barfield at the automated teller machine early Saturday morning. She withdrew an undisclosed amount of cash and appeared to be alone at the time. She then pulled over to the parking lot and never pulled away, the bank manager said. In general data on crimes at ATMs have not been broken out by law enforcement authorities. A small number of consumer advocates have contended that violent crime at ATMs needs to be better tracked.
