ALEXANDRIA, Va.-Adopting underserved areas continues to be a popular way for credit unions to add to and diversify their membership. Since the NCUA Board voted in late 2000 to streamline the underserved area adoption process under Access Across America, an initiative of former NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar, the number of areas skyrocketed. While the number of areas added dropped some in 2003, the number of potential members continued to rise.
