ST PETERSBURG, Fla. – More than 100,000 students in 15 states have gained a deeper understanding of American history thanks to programs the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation conducted with partial sponsorship of PSCU Financial Services member credit unions, according to PSCU. PSCU is the card servicing CUSO that serves over 500 credit unions that process their transactions with First Data. In an initiative to support the Foundation, PSCU provided its member credit unions with the opportunities to either support electronic field trips to the Williamsburg programs or week-long seminars for American history teachers. The electronic field trips are Web-based interactive television events that bring the 18th century to life for students, PSCU explained. More than four million students from over 3,500 schools take part every year. The $250 million Broward Schools Credit Union, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, sponsored about 20 local schools' participation and has committed to increase the funding next year after CEO Sam Chesser witnessed one of the programs in action with a fifth grade class. "The students were very engaged in the presentation," Chesser said. "They were rushing to the phones to participate in the interactive question and answer session that follows the program, and they asked some very good questions."
