For some attendees of NAFCU’s Annual Conference & Exhibition this may be their first trip to Vancouver, but for NAFCU this is its second go around in Canada’s third largest city. NAFCU held its Annual Conference here in 1997, and NAFCU President/CEO Fred Becker said they’d like to repeat that success. “The association had a fabulous conference in Vancouver in 1997; in fact, NAFCU was awarded the Global Paragon Award by Meeting Professionals International for its meeting that year. Our attendance was very good that year, too, owing in part to what was happening in the AT&T field-of-membership case. It was just a few months later that the Supreme Court heard the case that changed the credit union world,” said Becker. This year some 2,105 people will be in attendance, including delegates and their spouses and vendors. While this is down from 1997′s attendance figures of 2,619, NAFCU pointed out that 1997 was one of the largest conferences ever in its history. Next year’s event will be held in Las Vegas, followed by Toronto in 2006 and Hawaii in 2007.
