MADISON, Wis. – CUNA Credit Union is helping Sherman Middle School Teacher Mike Shoultz fight financial illiteracy in schools. The $287 million credit union is sponsoring Shoultz to attend personal financial workshops to help him teach his students to be financially savvy. Shoultz will attend the Wisconsin Institute of Financial & Economic Education, July 12-16 at Edgewood College. The financial education seminar will focus on topics such using credit wisely and buying a car. “Recent surveys demonstrate that Wisconsin’s high school seniors are failing when it comes to finance basics,” said CUNA Credit Union CEO Kim Sponem. “We want to give teachers the tools necessary to educate our youth to make informed financial decisions – such as how to responsibly use a credit card or finance higher education – so they’ll become financially self-sufficient as adults.”
