BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Credit Union Association of Oregon’s (CUAO) CU Advocate Subcommittee has approved offering two $500 Grassroots Scholarships to attend the national Hike the Hill in September. According to CUAO, the move is another way to get credit union advocates in front of members of the Oregon Congressional Delegation. Each year funds are raised to benefit the Grassroots Scholarship Fund. The money raised is typically used to sponsor scholarships to send advocates to the Governmental Affairs Conference every February. This year the subcommittee decided to increase the CU presence in Washington, D.C. to twice a year. “We are very excited to offer these scholarships to help show the importance of making these trips back to D.C. to meet with our Congressional Delegation,” said Committee Chair Dan Penn, CEO of MaPS Credit Union. “These scholarships will help credit unions offset some of the expenses for sending a staff member or board member to attend these two important events.”
