CCUL's Chatfield, NASCUS Chair Little, ABA's Leggett to Debate at NCSL Meeting

SALT LAKE CITY – The National Conference of State Legislatures will hold its Annual Meeting & Exhibition here July 19-23, and the preliminary agenda of the group’s Financial Services Standing Committee includes a debate on July 21 between California Credit Union League President/CEO David Chatfield; NASCUS Chair Roger Little, deputy commissioner, Office of Financial and Insurance Services, Michigan; and American Bankers Association Senior Economist Keith Leggett. The subject for their debate will be “What Does Financial Modernization Mean for Credit Unions?” A description reads: “.Some say that state and federal charters should be broadened to allow credit unions to keep pace with the changing financial marketplace. Others contend that credit union charters already have expanded the services that credit unions may provide to make them indistinguishable from retail banks.” The agenda states that the session “examines credit unions in the age of financial modernization.”
