MADISON, Wis. – CUNA has contracted with Travelex, an international foreign exchange firm, to allow credit unions to offer four pre-paid cards that credit union members can use while traveling domestically and overseas. The four cards will all carry the VISA logo and will include a Cash Passport card that can be used at ATMs, a gift card, a TravelMoney Card that can be used at both domestic and international ATMs and merchants with point of sale terminals, and a VISA Money Transfer card which will allow for card-to-card cash transfers using the Internet, as well as exchanges and other card features. The Cash Passport card is available now and the remaining cards will roll out in the fourth quarter of 2004, CUNA said. "With credit unions dedicated to serving people of modest means, CUNA felt the Money Transfer Card would offer a huge benefit to Hispanic credit union members looking for an easy and low-cost way to send and receive remittances," says Wes Millar, CUNA vice president of strategic alliances. The cards are an addition to the existing programs CUNA currently has with Travelex for VISA Travelers Cheques, My Travel Wallet (foreign exchange/travel products on-line) and, most recently, the agreement for remittances through the IRnet Money Transfer program.
