El Paso Employees Federal Credit Union, Texas, has awarded some $20,000 in scholarships to 10 graduating high school seniors and eight undergraduate students. Receiving $4,000 four-year scholarships each are: Laura Ashley Miller and Anthony Torres. Receiving $1,000 scholarships are: Johnna R. Crow, Vincent Castillo, Martha Ortega, America Aguilera, Reyes Mauricio, LaraRocio Avila; Crystal M. Robles, and Christopher Marquez. Undergraduate students receiving $1,000 each include: Jennifer Martinez, Kristen Y. Medina, Claudia V. Morales, Norma Alarcon, Myra Hernandez, Lorena Rios, Gilbert Caldera III and Alfredo I. Torres. Eagle Community Credit Union, Lake Forest, Calif., has awarded $1,000 academic scholarships to five college-bound students. This year’s recipients include Angela Shih, Erica Becky Louie, Eugene Ho, Jonathan Wolfe and Tiffany Chea. Students were selected based on academic achievement, community involvement and a written biography describing their high school background, career goals and reasons for applying for the scholarship. PSECU, Harrisburg, Pa., has distributed $109,500 in scholarship funds in 2004. Now in its eighth year, PSECU’s traditional scholarship program awards $1,000 a year for up to four years, to six high school seniors. Selection is based on high school grade transcripts, SAT scores, written essay school/community/work and other activities. This year’s recipients include Eric Himmelsbach, Lauren Hassen,Marisol Palacios, Mary Binker, Oze Henig and Roy Sherwood. PSECU distributes the remaining funds to a local community college, eight universities within the State System of Higher Education and four Pennsylvania high schools. In addition, PSECU has awarded two Millersville University students the PSECU Outstanding Student Leader Award. Jill Honea and Michael DeBowes each received a plaque and $750 in cash. Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, has awarded scholarships to Kurt Graver, Leonardo Guercio, Martin Pastor and Amanda Turiano. The Scholarship Program was established to provide high school graduates with funds for their continuing education. Financial Partners Credit Union, Downey, Calif., has awarded scholarships to Cerritos College students. The scholarship awards ranged from $500 to $1,500 and were offered in partnership with the Cerritos College Foundation. Recipients were selected based on an essay on the difference between credit unions and banks along with a list of their community service, extra curricular activities and grade point average. This year’s winners include Astrid Feist and Josh Franco. Tucson Federal Credit Union, Ariz., has awarded scholarships to three graduating seniors. Pamela Pierce, Jennifer Leehey, and Josephine Corderl were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship towards the college they will be attending this fall. Recipients were selected based on their essay on the Most Inspirational Teacher. Community Choice Credit Union, Livonia, Mich., has awarded six educational scholarships. This year’s recipients include Amy Corbin, Ryan Dinkgrave, April Lark, Meghan Lee, Dawn Taylor, and Vanessa Vann. Scholarship winners were selected based on academic achievement, community involvement and essay responses. Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union, Lockport, N.Y., has awarded scholarships to 10 high school students. This year’s recipients Jennifer Farr, Maryjo Kirsch, Elisha Landrigan, Kelly Menzel, Stephen Shuttleworth, Daniel Tierney, Karissa Tolli, Cory Weber, Ashley Wutz and Kristin Wyles were each awarded $250. Scholarship winner Jennifer Farr is also the recipient of a $1,000 New York State Credit Union Scholarship. South Texas Federal Credit Union, McAllen, Texas has awarded scholarships to Margaret Nieto, Crystal Sanchez, Jeanette Palacios and Cassandra Reyes. Scholarship recipients were selected for their essay response to the topic of “Why I’m A Member of STFCU and The Place of Credit Unions in Our Community.” Wichita Municipal Federal Credit Union, Kansas, has awarded seven deserving students with $500 scholarships. Recipients were selected based on grade point averages, extra curricular activities, community service, career goals, letters of recommendation, and written essays. This year’s winners include Marcos San Martin, Mary Dix , Amanda Armstrong, Michael Flaigle, William Owens, Michelle Berry, and Megan Matthews. Riverside County’s Credit Union, Calif., has presented 23 Riverside County high school students with scholarships totaling $10,750 from the RCCU Foundation. This marks the 12th year that the RCCU Foundation has awarded scholarships. More than 110 high school seniors have received scholarships since the program began in 1993. Students are selected based on their academic record, extracurricular activities, financial need and an essay detailing their college goals. Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., has awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships through its Capital Communication Cares Foundation. Valerie Nielsen, Jessica Quinn, William Chard, Kenneth Jubie and Lisa Carlino have each been presented $2,000. Recipients are selected based on essay responses to questions about current events. CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union, Alexandria, Va., has awarded $1,000 each to Michelle Evans and Patrick J. Lee. Recipients were selected based on academic excellence and community involvement. Navy Public Works Center Federal Credit Union, Virginia Beach, Va., has presented $1,000 scholarships to two graduating seniors-Elvi Marie Barcoma and Samantha Umali. In addition, Lauren Teagan Alexis Jones was named the Jack E. O’Connor Scholarship recipient. The $1,000 award was sponsored by the Tidewater Chapter of the Virginia Credit Union League.
