PASCAGOULA, Miss. – How do you let members in another state learn about your credit union? If you are Navigator Credit Union you invite them "N". A merger last year with the former Friendly Credit Union in Mobile, Alabama resulted in two branches to serve Navigator CU's 3,400 members living in Mobile County and the opportunity to expand to future members in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Wanting to make the most of the two new locations in Alabama, the $130 million credit union has launched an advertising campaign around being "N". "Since we're new in that state, our hope is that our billboard will create some brand awareness," said Navigator CU Marketing Director Kathy Scarbrough. "We really wanted to build a strong brand around the Navigator name so everytime they see the N they think of Navigator CU." Rather than using the word "in" like the new Verizon ads, the brand awareness campaign plays off the N in Navigator. Scarbrough says the possibilities are endless, from asking members to join the "N" crowd to letting members know the credit union can help them "Ncrease" their buying power and "Nrich" their lives. The N-theme will run throughout the year and be incorporated in everything from billboards and branch posters to radio spots, newspaper ads and the Web site. "We've had a lot of fun with it and I think we are headed `N' the right direction," said Scarbrough.
