WASHINGTON – June is National Homeownership Month, and to celebrate this third annual event, HUD is sponsoring Homeownership Expos in Las Vegas, Nev. and Miami, Fla. The events, which will be held along with many other small, local events planned around the country, are part of a month-long campaign by HUD and its partners to expand homeownership opportunities to more Americans, especially minorities. The Las Vegas expo will be held Saturday, June 19, and the expo in Miami will be on Saturday, June 26. According to HUD, the expos will be one-stop, free forums offering low and moderate income families the opportunity to learn about the benefits of homeownership. The expos will have credit counselors on hand offering information and advice about financial issues, vendors demonstrating products and tools, and non-profit organizations, lenders, and real estate professionals providing information on home buying and home ownership. Expo attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in classes on homebuying, selling, and mortgage loan products.
