ARLINGTON, Va. – Bruce Fahnestock, CEO of Volunteer Corporate CU, Nashville, Tenn., was named to the NASCUS Credit Union Council Board of Directors. He will serve out the remaining term of Eric Kenealy, president/CEO of SunCorp, which runs through September 2006. Kenealy is currently chairman of the Association of Corporate Credit Unions. He succeeded Fahnestock in that role. Commenting on being named to the NASCUS Credit Union Council Board, Fahnestock said he is "eager to work within our system – to make it better and stronger – because I believe that expanding federal regulations have tended to take away the rights of states. Our system isn't broken, but I do believe we're in a critical time for dual chartering." Fahnestock said he's excited by NASCUS' continuing education and accreditation programs and would like to become involved in helping professional advancement in some way. He said he's talked with his state commissioner, Kevin Lavender, about what they can do together to get qualified people in business schools and universities interested in careers in credit unions and state agencies. "We should encourage people to state service and work in the not-for-profit financial sector," he said.
