WASHINGTON-A throng of congressional and credit union dignitaries turned out for NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson’s inaugural reception on Capitol Hill June 3. The reception in the Lyndon B. Johnson Room on the Senate side of the Capitol was hosted by the entire Iowa congressional delegation. Congressmen Tom Latham (R-Iowa), Steve King (R-Iowa), and Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) attended the reception. King served in the Iowa State Senate with Johnson, while Kanjorski is the main Democratic cosponsor to the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 3579) presently awaiting a hearing in Congress. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), who is currently drafting regulatory relief legislation, also made an appearance. Additionally, several of the top staffers for NCUA-including Board Member Debbie Matz-CUNA, NAFCU, NASCUS, and NACCU, attended the reception, as did former NCUA Board Members Dennis Dollar and Geoff Bacino. Dollar is business partner and former chief of staff, Kirk Cuevas, was also there. Johnson’s husband Brian, daughter Brooke, and mother-in-law Jean were at her side during the reception.
