LEWISBURG, Pa. – The first set of public hearings for the Improving Financial Literacy Committee of Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell’s Task Force for Working Families met here recently. Among the scheduled speakers were representatives from Service 1st FCU in Danville, Pa. The task force was established by executive order on April 29, 2004, to develop strategies for helping working families better succeed by increasing their income, building assets, becoming financially literate and protecting existing assets. Members of the Improving Financial Literacy Committee include Michael Wishnow, senior vice president of communications and marketing at the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association, and Barb Fortney, CEO of LANCO FCU in Lancaster, Pa. Additional hearings have been scheduled for June 24 in Greensburg, Pa., and July 19 in West Chester, Pa. All hearings are open to the public, and credit unions are encouraged to participate.
