Treasury Official Joins The Family CU to Teach Game of Life

DAVENPORT, Iowa-Treasury Assistant Secretary for Financial Education Dan Iannicola, Jr., scheduled time recently to help officials from a local credit union to help teach basic financial education at an Iowa high school. “We’re honored that he chose us.He realized it’s important and that every little bit helps,” The Family Credit Union Marketing Coordinator Kris Lundquist said. Lundquist and another employee of The Family Credit Union have been volunteering for three years in a Junior Achievement program at Central High School for three years. In addition to sharing materials from the National Endowment for Financial Education, the volunteers help teach behavior-disordered students financial basics. The Family Credit Union’s Kelli Corbin originally helped create The Game of Life from the credit union’s experience in the classroom. In the game, students are assigned bills, a marital status, and other real life scenarios, which helps them learn about things like loans and payday lending. The Game of Life is also on CD, so it can be shared with other classrooms as well.
