COLUMBIA, S.C. – Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union is committed to youth and adult financial education and isn’t ashamed to share the news with local consumers. The $224 million credit union is airing a television commercial highlighting the credit union’s financial literacy efforts rather than promoting products. Produced by Fisher Communications the commercial will air over 600 times from April 12-May 23 and will reach over 342,000 people in the Midlands of South Carolina. The commercial highlights two specific initiatives-sponsorship of the National Endowment for Financial Education, High School Financial Planning Program (NEFE, HSFPP) in area high schools and the credit union’s Adult Financial Education seminars. The spot takes the viewer through a day in the credit union’s financial education efforts beginning with a local high school classroom showing the NEFE, HSFPP in use and ending with an evening adult financial education seminar. “Palmetto Citizens was originally chartered as an educator’s credit union and we feel that financial education is as important as any subject a student can study in school and have devoted a great deal of effort into promoting the NEFE program and Junior Achievement,” said Palmetto Citizens President/CEO Nick Wodogaza. “Adult financial education is the next step in our efforts to enhance the financial knowledge of our members and an opportunity to aid our community. Within our area, too many people are unfortunately not financially wise consumers.” The free adult financial education seminars will cover a variety of topics including: establishing and prioritizing financial goals, budgeting, wise use of credit, borrowing basics and understanding your credit report.
