SPOKANE, Wash. – In partnership with the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture, Spokane Teachers Credit Union will sponsor Spokane A Ceramic Continuum: Fifty Years of the Archie Bray Influence, May 22 – July 18. The exhibit is a retrospective of work done at the Archie Bray Foundation. It contains some of the finest examples of ceramics in the United States from the late twentieth century and ranges from early works by Peter Voulkos and Rudy Autio, who set the standard of excellence at the Bray, to Lucy Breslin, Jeanne Quinn, Kurt Weiser, Josh DeWeese and Rosalie Wynkoop. The Bray has been an important ceramic residency program for the past fifty years. In 1951, Peter Voulkos and Rudy Autio, became the first two resident artists at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. Archie Bray envisioned his pottery as a place where young artists could use the brickyard’s clays and kilns, hone their skills, and learn from each other. The Bray’s alumni now number more than 300. STCU will host part of the exhibit at its main branch as part of its commitment to help fund the arts.
