Des Moines, Iowa – Employees of the Iowa Credit Union League and its affiliate company, The Members Group, cheered on Kirby Kangaroo as he competed in a mascot relay race that was part of a week of activities surrounding the Drake Relays, one of the world's premier track and field meets. The Kirby Kangaroo Club (www.kirbykangaroo.com) is a youth marketing program managed by The Members Group for children age 12 and under. Thundershowers greeted eight mascots who gathered at Drake University for the special relay race sponsored by a Central Iowa radio station. Kirby Kangaroo was among the field of contestants for an early-morning, one-lap 400-meter race. The youth marketing program mascot was in top shape and poised to pull out all the stops for a credit union victory from the second lane-until McGruff the Crime Dog stepped on his tail in an attempt to take the lead from the back stretch. In the end, Colonel Corn came in first with McGruff second and Kirby finishing fifth.
