Sunmark Federal Credit Union, Schenectady, N.Y., has presented volunteer firefighter/member Philip DiPompei with a 2003 Hyundai Accent. DiPompei participated in the credit union and local Fuccillo Hyundai dealer’s “Race to Win” promotion. A field of 32 contestants raced HO scale slot cars in an elimination tournament for the car. DiPompei survived elimination and emerged victorious after winning all six heats. The event was hosted by local radio station Fly92 andco-sponsors Sunmark, Fuccillo Hyundai, and Rotterdam Square Mall. Kinecta Federal Credit Union, Manhattan Beach, Calif., employees donated their time to participate in the eighth annual Southern California 5K AIDS Walk for Minority Women and Children. Some $3,850 was raised during the event. The League of African American Women and Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-Long Beach) founded the 5K AIDS Walk in 1997 as part of their commitment to developing strategic plans for improving the community, placing great emphasis on health. The Center for Disease Control reports that over 40,000 new HIV infections occur in the United States each year and about 30% are women. Walk proceeds benefit several Southern California AIDS clinics. Members Credit Union, Winston-Salem, N.C.,has hosted an American Red Cross Blood Drive. With over 36 donors, the blood drive brought out people from across the community, including students from Forsyth Technical Community College and Members CU members and employees.
