WASHINGTON – The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., for which NAFCU worked to raise funds, recently opened to the public. "We are delighted that the World War II Memorial is now open to the public, and NAFCU members should be proud of their contribution to funding a project that will play an important part in educating all the generations to come about the singular importance of this event," NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker said. "World War II was perhaps the most significant event in the last century, and without the sacrifice of that generation, we would not enjoy the freedoms and opportunities we have today." NAFCU helped raise nearly $144,000 for the World War II Memorial Campaign and was recognized by campaign Chairman former Senator Bob Dole on Sept. 24, 2001. NAFCU's Board had voted in June 2000 to raise the funds, which was announced a month later at NAFCU's annual Defense Credit Union Summit in Hawaii.
