WASHINGTON – For the first time in agency history, an outgoing NCUA Chairman was honored by his home state U.S. senators with a farewell reception at the Capitol. Mississippi Senators Trent Lott (R) and Thad Cochran (R) hosted a reception for former NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar on Thursday, April 29. Senator Don Nickles (R-Okla.) and Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) also stopped by. The event attracted top officials from credit union circles. Then-NCUA Vice Chair JoAnn Johnson was at the event, as was her Executive Assistant Holly Herman and Administrative Assistant Heather Graham. NCUA Board Member Debbie Matz was unable to attend because she had previously committed to keynoting at the Hawaii Credit Union League annual convention. Her administrative assistant, Patty Jenkins did attend. Also attending from NCUA were Executive Director Len Skiles, General Counsel Robert Fenner, and Director of Public and Congressional Affairs Cliff Northup, among others. CUNA SVP of Governmental Affairs John McKechnie, Associate General Counsel Mary Dunn, and VP and Senior Legislative Counsel Gary Kohn attended from CUNA. NAFCU was represented by President Fred Becker; Chair Diane Furnas; EVP Diane Swenson; General Counsel Bill Donovan; Director of Regulatory Affairs Gwen Baker; Board Secretary Bill Cheney; Board Treasurer John Milazzo, president of Campus Federal Credit Union; Director Bill Brooks; and Director Frank DeMita, board member at Nassau Educators FCU. Navy Federal Credit Union VP Bill Earner represented NAFCU Board Director Brian McDonnell, president and CEO of Navy Federal. NASCUS President Mary Martha Fortney and Director of Legal and Policy Analysis Brian Knight also made appearances at the reception. These are just some of the many who showed up to honor the outgoing chairman.
