SAN ANTONIO, Texas -San Antonio Federal Credit Union (SACU) has helped local consumers get a jump on preventing identity theft while doing a little spring cleaning by hosting its second annual Shred Day. Some 200 families lined up to dispose approximately 10,000 pounds of sensitive papers at three SACU branches. Three professional document-shredding companies – Iron Mountain, DocuGuides and Marshall Shredding – provided trucks and personnel to shred the documents while residents watched. The paper shreds were then sent to a recycling location to not only keep the personal papers out of the hands of those who might misuse the information, but to also help the environment. SACU and its partner, the San Antonio Chapter of ARMA International, offered the free service to the public, shredding up to 100 pounds of personal documents per vehicle. “We care about our community and every person’s security,” said SACU President/CEO Jeff Farver. “We want to help people dispose of sensitive documents safely and also raise their awareness of ways to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft.”
