ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Card Services for Credit Unions had a strong year in 2003, picking up 235 new member credit unions, according to CSCU president Robert Hackney. Hackney revealed the news at the association's 2004 annual meeting. That lifted CSCU to 2,600 members, or more than half of the credit unions that offer credit cards. Hackney also told attendees that the group's total accounts in 2003 stood at 9.2 million versus 8.4 million in 2002. Those new accounts helped transactions leap to 423.9 million in 2003, compared to 365.3 million in 2002. That volume in turn generated $21.3 billion in transactions in 2003, compared to $18.1 billion in 2002 and that generated distributions back to members of $285 million in 2003 compared to $268.4 million in 2002.
