OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. – Credit union members who hold their institution’s debit cards are more open to other transactions with their credit unions than those who do not, according to a study by the Raddon Financial Group. Thirty-five percent of the 170,000 credit union members who responded to the survey who hold debit cards and checking accounts said that they would give the credit union all or most of their future loan business. By comparison, only 30% of members who had a checking account but no debit card said they would do so, and only 24% of households without either checking or debit card. Even more members (44%) with both checking accounts and debit cards said that their credit unions get all their deposits. This compared with 38% of members with checking but no debit and 19% of members holding neither product.
