MYRTLE BEACH, S. C. – Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union, one of the early backers of the Victory Junction Gang Camp for chronically and terminally ill children, has made a $20,000 contribution to the two-year-old fund-raising project being organized by the North and South Carolina Leagues through the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. “That $20,000 was our first instalment and now we hope to double that,” said Jim McDaniel, president of the $92 million Carolina Trust. The funds were raised in recent months through various fundraisers including employee `blue jean days,’ popcorn and candy sales to members. The biggest chunk of the contributions came in a Christmas raffle of an $8,5000 boat purchased at cost from Eastern Sales Co., a Conway dealer. “I understand from Steve Elam, the executive director of the Credit Union Foundation, that our $20,000 brings the total to $380,000,” said McDaniel noting the Foundation looks to reach its goal of $500,000 when the first camp facility opens this summer in Randelman, N.C. The check for $20,000 was presented to Elam during Carolina Trust’s annual meeting last month.
