CAMP PENDELTON, Calif. – Longtime Pacific Marine Credit Union President/CEO Lou DeCarlo has died at the age of 74. DeCarlo led the $415 million credit union for over 29 years and was also serving on the Defense Credit Union Council Board. Prior to joining PMCU he served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps with tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. During his years in the Marine Corps, he acquired a master's degree in business from Southwestern University in Washington, D.C. DeCarlo's first introduction to the credit union movement came when he served for 12 years as a member of the WesCorp supervisory committee. Later he became a delegate of the California Credit Union League and served on the board of the Financial Service Centers Cooperative, CU Cooperative Systems Inc. and CU Mortgage Corp. DeCarlo died on March 20 and is survived by his son, two daughters and grandchildren. According to PMCU Vice President of Strategic Development Brad Smith, the board expects to name DeCarlo's successor at its next meeting.
