ARLINGTON, Va.-Half of the NAFCU Board seats up for election this year have already been decided. Two NAFCU Board incumbents have no challengers for their seats this election, while three NAFCU members, including one incumbent, are running for the two remaining available seats on the board, according to NAFCU Director of Planning, Programming and Special Projects Joe Boyle. Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union Chairman Dave Gilbert, representing Region II, and Nevada Federal Credit Union CEO Brad Beal (Region V) are uncontested for their seats. However, three candidates-NAFCU's current Chair Diane Furnas (CEO of Southwest Airlines Federal Credit Union), Webster First Federal Credit Union CEO Michael Lussier, and Members 1st Federal Credit Union CEO Robert Marquette-are running for the two at-large board seats. Furnas is concluding her second three-year term, Boyle explained. Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union Director Frank DeMita, who has spent 50 years in credit unions, will be stepping down from his seat after two terms on NAFCU's board, NAFCU Communications Manager John Zimmerman said. Ballots are being mailed out to NAFCU members April 22 and are due back by May 27. Winners will take their seats at the end of NAFCU's Annual Conference this July. NAFCU's board members are limited to three, three-year terms. The board elects table officers each year and are not subject to term limits beyond their board term limit. Following in NCUA's footsteps in paring down the regions represented, NAFCU will eliminate one at-large seat in two years. When Three Rivers Federal Credit Union CEO Jim Mills resigned from the NAFCU Board last year, Paula Edwards, CEO of Nationwide Federal Credit Union, was elected to his Region IV seat. After Edwards serves out her three-year term, the Region IV seat (that became at-large in 2004) will be eliminated leaving 11 board members. [email protected]
