BROCKTON, Mass. – HarborOne CU was awarded a $35,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide a homeownership education series to Brockton Housing Authority Section 8 voucher holders. HarborOne began the homeownership counseling sessions and more than 60 participants attended a general orientation session. Topics covered included how to negotiate the price of a home, home to obtain homeownership financing and pre-approvals, how to find a home including information about homeownership opportunities, and how to identify and avoid predatory loans. The credit union plans to hold individual sessions in the future with a HarborOne representative so topics and issues can be covered in greater details, such as the basics of personal finance.
