WASHINGTON-Approximately 8,500 runners were scheduled to race through Rock Creek Park last Sunday in the 32nd annual running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run. In Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc.’s third year as title sponsor of the run, the group, which is made up of 66 credit unions and related organizations, expects to raise over $325,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network. Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. presented the check to Children’s National Medical Center last Thursday. “We are proud to once again sponsor this event and raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, while increasing awareness of credit unions,” Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. Chairman Juri Valdov, CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union, said. “Of the 8,500 registered runners, over 3,600 belong to credit unions. Hundreds of credit union volunteers will be on hand on race day as well to help make sure this event runs as smoothly as possible.” Credit union 10-miler participants will include CUNA and NAFCU CEOs Dan Mica and Fred Becker. Additionally, CUNA, NAFCU, Congressional Federal Credit Union, and U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union are sponsoring the Capitol Hill Competition, which is reserved for Hill members and staffers separated by House and Senate teams. Competitors race to have their names added to the perpetual trophy. “Credit Unions for Kids” is CMN’s second largest sponsor having collectively raised nearly $20 million. Olympic gold medalists, world champions and world record holders have participated in the Cherry Blossom Run in the past.
